2011 Banner Artists

		Jane Anderson Jane paints in oil and, for portraits, in pastel as well. She has pursued her love of the arts in various ways all her life. Although her degree and professional life were in Interior Design, she has also done work in mural painting and fine art furniture painting as well. Currently, here on the Eastern Shore, Jane continues working seriously in still life and commissioned portraits.

		Jane Bollman Jane Bollman received her BA from Hood College, MLA from Johns Hopkins and attended classes at MD Institute and Goucher College. She held teaching and management positions in Baltimore. Jane is a member of Working Artists Forum and Talbot County Arts Council. She received awards in Local Color and Chesapeake College shows.

		Julia Burr Julia is an award winning painter living in Easton, MD. Her work has shown at the Academy Art Museum, Main Street Gallery in Cambridge, Talbot County Visual Arts Center and Easton's Promise Art Gallery. Julia studies painting with David Grafton of Grafton Galleries. Julia is a certified Art Medicine Woman and has taught process painting workshops under the name of Paint Your ART Out! In NYC and locally since 2000.

		Margery Caggiano Margery is a newcomer to the Eastern Shore, and has made her home and studio in St. Michaels. She is an award winning painter and occasional teacher. She has exhibited nationally in galleries and museums.

		Gwen Cameron Gwen Cameron’s works are Photography Art, which she produces in her studio in Wittman. Gwen's work has been on display at various locations and shows throughout Maryland. Much of her work which includes photo restoration is commissioned. Gwen is a member of the St. Michaels Art League and NAPP. Her favorite subjects are the people, boats, and landscapeof the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

		Heather Crow Heather is a painter and mixed-media artist who has lived in the community for 30 years. She is an instructor at the Academy Art Museum and accepts commissions in oil, acrylic, and watercolor. You may contact her at heather.crow@goeaston.net.

		Dudley Davis Dudley has been painting Eastern Shore landscapes and lifestyles for the past five years. He works in oils, watercolor, acrylics, and pastel. His work has been exhibited in St. Michaels, Oxford, Easton, Cambridge, and Chestertown. He lives in Wittman and is frequently asked to paint portraits of houses, boats, and pets.

		Madeline Eli Madeline attended Housatonic Community College and Silvermine Art School in CT where she studied with well-known artists. She is a member of MD and CT Pastel Societies, Friday Morning Artists, Talbot County Visual Arts Center, Working Artists' Forum, and numerous other art groups. Madeline is a signature member of Pastel Society of America.
Purple Fields	Arch Way
		Laura Era Laura is an award winning, professional portrait, still life and landscape artist, but her passion is portraiture. Her portraits, landscapes, and still lifes hang in collections throughout the U.S. and Europe. Painting trips have taken her across the U.S. and to England, France, Portugal, Germany and many times to Italy. She is also co-owner of the prestigious Troika Gallery in historic Easton and can often be seen working on commissions in the back studio.

		Peg Fitzgerald Peg is a plein air painter who paints directly from life cpaturing the light and essence of the moment. Initially inspired by the NE coastline, the serene coves of the Eastern Shore now resonate with her spirit. She received a B.A. from UNH and worked as an art editor in NYC. After raising her 5 children here on the shore, she's back to landscape painting and was voted into the Inaugural Plein Air Easton! 2005 as the people's choice. She has studied with numerous painters and currently works from her studio in historic Easton.

		Perry Foster Perry explains, “It is my aim to try to catch a piece of this unique area of flat land, shining water and uncommon light and depict its ever-changing moods on canvas. Through my paintings, I hope to stop time to enable others to share with me the beauty and serenity I find in the fields, marshes, rivers and natural world that surround me.”

		Joanne Gelles Joanne grew up in the suburbs of Washington DC; is a University of Maryland graduate; and has lived on the Eastern Shore for about 20 years. "I have always enjoyed creating fun and whimsical things...painting, drawing and most recently, mosaic art! My favorite artists include Marc Chagall, Henri Rousseau and Georgia O'Keefe."

		Matt Ghrist Having spent most of my life on the shore I would almost consider myself an Eastern Shore native. I've grown to appreciate the people, food, environment, and art buzz more than ever. And to have the opportunity to share it with friends, family, and the children of Easton Elementary School makes it even more special.

		David Grafton David is an american landscape painter who is represented in many private and corporate collections. He and his wife Gail own Grafton Galleries in Easton now in its 9th year. David also teaches in his gallery on Mondays and in Princess Anne on Tuesdays.

		Don Hildebrandt Don is a retired landscape architect. He paints in watercolor and acrylic and has a studio/gallery at 24 N. Harrison St. Winner of the 2010 Sam Hemming Award at the Academy Art Museum; he has exhibited in MD, PA, DE, NJ, and MI. His subjects are of the Eastern Shore, ME and PA.

		Matthew Hillier Matthew Hillier is originally from England though he now lives with his wife (Artist Julia Rogers) and son in Tunis Mills. He loves the Eastern shore life style and this is reflected in his paintings. His award winning work is widely exhibited in this country and Great Britain. Locally his work can be seen in the Troika Gallery and he regularly teaches at the Academy Art museum.

		Marianne Hollis Marianne was a graphic art major and worked in that field in Montgomery County. Sculpture and printmaking are favorite forms of expression. Marianne has resided in Talbot County for 24 years and has attended numerous workshops and studied printmaking w/ Kent Kimmel, and painting w/ James Plumb and Louis Escobedo.

		Robert Horvath Bob has a great interest in aviation and is a member of the Air Force Artists. His paintings have been exhibited at the Air and Space Museum, The USAF Museum in Ohio and have been used on calendars issued by the Air Force Assocation and in books dealing witht the USAF. As an artist he is interested in painting historic city/townscapes and rural landscapes. He has done a series of limited edition prints depicting scenes on the old National Railroad through the mountains of Western Pennsylvania. In 2007 he was appointed to the National Council of the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, MA.

		Laura Howell Laura is an artist who paints in watercolor, acrylics and oils. She was a competitor in Plein Air Easton! for two years and now attends the Plein Air event for the educaitonal benefit of watching the painters and loving the old and new friends every year. She loves Easton, St. Michaels and Oxford as well as surrounding little Maryland towns. Laura has homes in Annapolis and St. Michaels, MD with her family. Her website is www.laurahowell.com.

		Jill Jacobson Jill is an Easton artist, painting mostly landscapes and seascapes and is part of the Monday night group at Grafton Galleries. Originally from PA, Jill has lived in Haddonfield, N.J., Bethesda, Annapolis and Sarasota, FL. When not painting she is designing kitchens for Warren's Wood Works.
Oxford Town Creek	Water View
		Linda Kirvan Linda divides her time between Bethesda and Oxford, Maryland. She has attended schools, classes and is active in many art organizations in the Washington area and on the Eastern Shore for the past eleven years. Her journey of discovery and learning comprises studio and landscape painting. She has worked in watercolor and oils as well as explored many aspects of printmaking. Her love of nature and the work of maasters of art as well as her teachers over the years inspire her work.

		Kathy Kopec Kathy is a member of the St. Michaels Art League and the Academy Art Museum and exhibits in The Waters Way Art Museum in St Michaels. "It is hard not to find inspiration on the Eastern Shore. There is so much beauty for an artist to share through paintings".

		Ken Lehman Ken's inspiraiton is always from the natural world. If the painting evokes a true memory of "place", I consider the work a success.

		Mary Ellen Mabe Mary Ellen feels fortunate to attend workshops and learn from all the wonderful artists of the Eastern Shore. She finds subject matter everywhere along the rivers and creeks of the Chesapeake Bay. She is a member of the St. Michaels Art League.

		Karen Mathis Karen Mathis is an award-winning artist in both watercolor and oil. Her works have received awards by nationally known judges, including the Curator of the Phillips Gallery, Professor of the Corcoran School of Art,The Chairman of the Art Deparment of the George Washington University. She is also a member of the Oil Painters of America, the American Impressionist Society and the Plein Air Painters of the Eastern Shore.

		Wallace A. McGarry Wallace attended the Abbott Art School in Washington D.C. and the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles. He teaches oil painting classes at the Dorchester Art Center, Visual Art Center of Easton and for the St. Michaels Art League. He has been a senior Creative Director in New York and Los Angeles. He has illustrated for magazines, directed photography for catalogs and brochures.

		Amber McKewen Amber is a photographer and native to the Eastern Shore. She specializes in light photography featuring children, families and wildlife. She is a past merit award winner for the Plein Air Photography contest in 2009. She resides with her family in Easton.

		Margot Miller Began painting in 2007 and is primarily known for her skies, trees and macrobotanicals. Her studio is at 12 A Talbot Lane.
Shore Grass	Chance Hope
		David Morrell David has been creating artwork professionally since 1979 and is a full time graphic designer and illustrator. Primarily self-taught, he is inspired by the landscapes and the people of the Eastern Shore, which are reflected in his paintings and drawings.

		Diane DuBois Mullaly Diane attended Tyler School of Art, of Temple University. She has been an art director in woman's fashion, a graphic designer in New York City and an antiques sellar in Washington, DC. She is an award winning painter of miniatures in oil; a devoted plein air painter she has been juried into Plein Air Easton! Her goal is to create paintings which grab the viewer with their energy; yet also speak quietly, with poetic and soulful passages.

		Dorothy Newland Dorothy Newland is co-owner of The Troika Gallery Fine Art Studio in Easton. She works mainly in oil paint. “Her bold and vigorous images have demanded numerous awards in wider and wider areas.” She attended the Pennsylvania University of Art and the Maryland Institute College of Art. She has studied extensively with master painters and in intensive workshops throughout the east coast.

		Sara Linda Poly Sara is a full time painter and instructor. She has participated in many local and national shows and plein air competitions and has received numerous awards. Her work can be seen at the South Street Art Gallery and she is a participant in Plein Air Easton!

		Julia Rogers Being an artist and painting in nature was inevitable. Growing up on the Eastern Shore has had a strong influence on Julia since childhood. Her mother an artist and father a sportsman, its not surprising that she began drawing landscapes and animals at a very young age. Julia lives in Tunis Mills with her husband, artist Matthew Hillier, and son.

		Maggii Sarfaty After attending MICA, Maggii began her career as a muralist. Painting prolifically for over 22 years, her work has been featured in many national and local publications. Besides creating murals that grace the finest homes and buisnesses, she also accepts fine art commissions.

		Melinda Sebastian Melinda is a freelance artist who worked in the wall covering and furniture industries as a designer/developer prior to moving to Easton with her husband and three cats. She is happiest creating surface pattern designs and also enjoys experimenting with printmaking.

		Bobbie Seger A graduate of Drexel University with a degree in Fine Arts. She is a member of W.A.T, S.M.A.L, and Academy Art Museum in Easton, MD where she currently teaches landscape painting oils. She is one of the "Traveling Brushes" with quite a following in the mid-atlantic states, especially the Chesapeake Bay.

		Nancy Tankersley Nancy is co-owner of the South Street Art Gallery and of the Easton Studio and School. One of the founders of Plein Air-Easton! She believes in the importance of painting from life as often as possible. Her love of the Chesapeake Bay area is evident in her landscapes, portraits and figurative paintings.

		Katie Theeke Katie paints primarily in oils and much of her work has a narrative quality. She enjoys painting landscapes and scenes that depict everyday moments. She studied at the University of Michigan and in Florence, Italy; graduating with a BFA in 1995. She taught art at the Bullis School in Potomac, MD. Katie lives with her family in Easton.

		Greg VandaVisser Born in Easton Greg has remained a resident of the Eastern Shore since the 1960's. He received his BA from Salisbury University and The Art Institute of Pittsburgh where he studied marketing and visual communication. In addition to a career in marketing and design he has maintained a passionate focus on fine art. His concentration is primarily in painting, found object constructions and collage. He pulls from both nature and the human conditions subjects for his work. He has shown at several galleries and is a two-time winner of the Lee Lawrie Award for best in show at the Academy Art Museum in Easton.

		Jen Wagner Jen grew up in Talbot County and has always been amazed by the beautiful surroundings and the warmth of the community. She is lucky enough to enjoy life her while making mosaics for businesses, homes, community organizations and galleries. Jen is co-owner of Wagner Witte Gallery, 15 N. Harrison St.

		Jennifer Heyd Wharton Jennifer has earned recognition as one of the best known artists in Maryland and through her unique perspective in color and texture, she is rapidly gaining attention throughout the U.S. She graduated from Moore College of Art and co-owns Troika Gallery Fine Art Studio in Easton.

		Karen Wood Karen is an oil painter who works primarily out doors working to capture the essence of the the Eastern Shore. She is a member fo the Working Artists Forum, Plein Air Painters of the Eastern Shore and has participated for several years in the Easton Plein Air Festival and Competition.
